Artist Statement
My creative work tends to centre on the experiences and issues that affect women in their everyday lives and the natural world and how we interact with it. Our society has been formed around the patriarchal hierarchy and as women we need to adjust our natural instincts or habits to adapt to this culture, be it to be wary while walking alone or careful of what we wear and how we conduct and present ourselves to others around us.
I like to distort recognisable forms and explore the movements and distortions of the body. I try to find beauty in the mundane and love to explore the abstraction that can be perceived of the female body in particular and the relationship between the body and itself internally and in regards to external pressures and viewpoints.
My layered pieces invite the viewer to take a closer look and really examine the different components of the image and how they interact with each other, be it a harmonious or a dissonant combination.
